One lorry collided with a stationary vehicle near junction 30, heading towards the Dartford river crossing, shortly before 2.30pm on Saturday, 17 July.
Firefighters were called to free one of the drivers, a 38-year-old man, who became trapped.
He was taken to hospital with broken wrists and a leg injury.
The road was closed while the man was freed, a section of the road was cleared and repair work carried out.
Police are investigating the circumstances.
In a statement released yesterday, a spokesperson for Essex Police said: “We appreciate it was very hot and many people were held up in traffic, and we’d like to thank everyone for their patience.
“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances behind the collision.”
Witnesses and anyone with dash cam footage are asked to contact Chigwell Roads Policing Unit, quoting incident 816 of 17 July.
