Around 40 campaigns started a demonstration by junction 31 for Lakeside and the Dartford Crossing at 8.30am this morning. They have also blocked London Road.
The group is calling for the government to make Britain’s homes greener and prevent winter deaths caused by the cold weather.
“In 10 years time when fuel crises are catastrophic, when the food has run out and when people are experiencing unsurvivable heat waves, what would you be wishing you had done now?” said Liam Norton of Insulate Britain.
“We think you’ll be wishing you had sat on the road with Insulate Britain doing whatever it took to protect current and future generations. So come join us on the road.”
Todays demonstration is in breach of the injunction granted to National Highways last month and it is the 13th time they have caused disruption to motorways in four weeks.
Essex Police has confirmed at least 16 arrests have been made.
A spokesperson said: “Officers were at the scene within five minutes and are currently working to resolve the situation quickly and safely.
“We know this will be frustrating for people caught up in traffic but we appreciate your patience and understanding.”
