The event will start at Henry Green Primary School, in Chitty’s Lane, and end up at Valence Park where there will be street theatre, live music and a “spectacular” fireworks display.
It has been organised by the local council in partnership with Creative Barking and Dagenham to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first houses built in Chitty’s Lane.
Local schools and residents will be involved in the event, which will include illuminated big heads and lanterns.
Henry Green Primary School, Becontree Primary School and Valence Primary School have also helped create artwork to mark the centenary.
Creative Barking and Dagenham have worked with Global Streets to bring Dundu, the giant of light, to the parade as well.
“Our last Winter Lantern Parade was held way back in 2019 and was spectacular with all the wonderful light displays,” said Barking and Dagenham Council’s deputy leader, Saima Ashraf.
“As the dark nights draw in, this is an opportunity for people to come together and light up the borough’s streets whilst marking such an important part of our it’s history to celebrate 100 years of the Becontree Estate and the first houses built there.”
The event takes place on Sunday and more information can be found online here.
