Firefighters tackle second blaze in Rainham in two days

Around nine hectares of grass in Rainham have been destroyed in two days

The London Fire Brigade has tackled a grass fire in Rainham for the second time in two days.

Around 70 firefighters and ten fire engines responded to reports of a blaze in Lambs Lane North at around 4.30pm yesterday.

The fire destroyed three hectares of grass, shrubs and bushes before being brought under control at around 6.15pm.

Fire crews from Harold Hill, East Ham, Dagenham, Hornchurch, Barking, Ilford, Plaistow, Poplar, Stratford and Bexley fire stations were all called to the scene.

The LFB said it is investigating the cause of the blaze.

On Wednesday, another grass fire broke out in the same area and destroyed six hectares of grass.

Firefighters had to remain on the scene for several hours to dampen down the area.
