An online consultation has been launched on plans to develop a new logistics centre in West Thurrock.

MD Star Limited says it is planning to build Mardyke Park next to junction 31 of the M25 so that it can support the delivery of infrastructure in Aveley and Purfleet.

The company claims the project will create more than 700 jobs, including those for warehouse workers, HGV drivers, mechanics and clerks.

“The scheme has the support of the Essex Association of Boys and Girls as it includes a new community hub building that will be available to the wider community,” said a spokesperson for planning consultants, Iceni Projects.

“The proposals also provide outdoor recreational facilities, including a dog adventure playground, outdoor gym equipment and educational woodland walkway.”

Residents have raised concerns about HGVs accessing Aveley but the developer said it would pay for a new roundabout to discourage them from entering the town.

Leaflets were dropped in Aveley and Purfleet on Friday, 16 September to make residents aware of the project. Those wishing to comment on the proposals can either complete the freepost questionnaire or reply online on the scheme’s website here

The feedback will be used to help shape a planning application which is expected to be submitted to Thurrock Council in October 2022.

The council is expected to make a final decision about the project early next year.
