An e-fit image of a man has been released by detectives investigating the rape of a woman in Wanstead Park.

The victim, aged in her 60s, was attacked in July last year at approximately 2pm while walking along a secluded gravel footpath near to Ilford Golf Course.

A Sexual Offences Investigative Techniques officer has been supporting the woman since the outset of the investigation.

Detective Constable Lauren Weatherley leads the investigation and is asking for anyone who recognises the man to contact police without delay.

She said: “We have been investigating this offence for a number of months and unfortunately we have not identified a suspect. We continue to investigate and are doing everything we can to secure justice for the victim-survivor.

“Please look at this image carefully. Could you have been in the location of the park on Friday, 8 July 2022? Do you live or work in the area and do you recognise this man?

“Please share any information or concerns you have with us as it could be the break in the case we are looking for.”

Officers say they don’t believe the attack is linked to any other reported incidents at this stage.

Anyone with information which could assist detectives in this investigation is asked to call 101, quoting CAD 3994/08Jul22.
