£25 million transformation proposed for Grays

Grays Town Board hope the funding will make Grays a leisure hub

A £25 million proposal has been submitted to accelerate the regeneration of Grays.

Grays Towns Fund Board are hoping to secure the government funding to transform the area into the ‘leisure-centre of Thurrock’.

The plans hope to reconnect the town to the river and include improvements to the station gateway, a new beach destination and a maritime activity centre.

The facility is set to offer activities such as canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding.

There are also plans for a new jetty to connect Thurrock, Kent and London.

Chair of Grays Towns Board and Director of Development at NewRiver REIT, Justin Thomas, said, “The Towns Fund project proposals will reconnect the town centre with its riverside heritage, enhance the riverside experience and create lasting social and economic impact for Grays, its residents, businesses and visitors.

“This plan will position Grays to fulfil its potential and become the desirable town centre destination that it deserves to be.”

The council says the proposed project will accelerate the transformation that is already happening in Grays.

Councillor Mark Coxshall, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said,  “These projects will deliver great opportunities for residents of all ages, as well as a new leisure destination for Grays, Thurrock, and visitors to enjoy.”

Locals can find out more about the proposed plans and provide feedback on the Grays Town Board website.
