A local businessman has agreed to invest in Romford Football Club to protect their short and long term future.

Glenn Tamplin, former owner of Billericay Town, has promised to provide the team with a new stadium as they currently play at home in Brentwood.

Meanwhile, it has been announced Manager Paul “Magic” Martin will leave the club. Mark Lord and the backroom team are also departing the club.

“It was felt with the new investment coming into the club it was the right time for a fresh start,” said Chairman Steve Gardener.

“It would be difficult to put in words the impact and legacy that Magic and Lordy have had on the club, and were well respected and liked not just in our club but across the non league world.”

He announced a new management team of four people have been put in place who have access to players in League Two. Some of them will be available for Saturday’s home game against Coggeshall.

“The club have been struggling for some time now due to lack of finances and resources, and our aim of getting back to Romford in our own ground is a must, but myself and Colin Ewenson, are not in a position to drive the club forward and deliver the new ground,” continued Gardener.

Speaking before the announcement of Martin’s departure, two fans were eager for him to stay:

“He has poured his heart and soul into the club,” said Bob Maunders, 72, from Rainham, who has supported the team for 58 years.

“A few weeks ago he wasn’t feeling too good and we felt it was because of the pressure of what he has done for the club. We feel if this is going to come to the club we would like this man as a manager. ”

Tim Coyle, 52, from Romford, said Martin has been an excellent scout for the team but it was hard to retain talent.

“He finds people that other people wouldn’t have,” Tim told Time 107.5. “We bring in lots of players to the club and as soon as varying things happen they move onto other things, particularly payment.”

“One of his proteges Tom Richardson actually looked after Braintree at the weekend and took over as caretaker manager.

“This is what Paul Martin does, he’s Mr Magic to us and we want him to remain.”
