Dagenham woman jailed for heroin worth £5 million

A woman from Dagenham has been jailed for eight years after being found in a taxi in Ilford with £500,000 worth of heroin in a bag.

29-year-old Sibela Ahmed was in the cab when it was stopped by police in Meath Road in December 2017.

Officers found a plastic bag containing 5kg of heroin in the rear passenger’s footwell.

Ahmed was traveling with 48-year-old Jeetendra Parekh from Slough at the time.

A search of Ahmed’s address found a further 46kg of heroin estimated to be worth around £4.6 million.

Detective Constable Kevin Rowley, from the Met’s East Area Proactive Team, said: “This operation has seen a significant quantity of drugs removed from London’s streets and we are pleased Parekh will be joining Ahmed behind bars.

“I hope these lengthy sentences provide some level of reassurance to the public that we are doing all we can to clamp down on drug dealers and the criminality associated with them.”

Ahmed pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply at a hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday 8 October and was jailed for eight years. Perekh was sentenced to nine years in prison for conspiracy to supply class A drugs following a three-day trial.
