Death of man in Chingford treated as suspicious

A crime scene is currently in place in Chingford following the death of a man.

Emergency services were called to a fire at a residential address in Genever Close around 1.12pm yesterday where they found a man believed to be in his late sixties.

A post-mortem examination is to be held in due course and a formal identification is yet to happen. 

A woman in her fifties was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and is due to be questioned by police.  She was taken to hospital with injuries related to the fire.

Police are treating the death of the man as suspicious.
