A pub in East Ham has announced it will be the latest to close down this week.
The Denmark Arms in Barking Road will be closing on Monday.
The owners posted a message on Facebook over the weekend confirming the news:
“IT’S OFFICIAL. WE ARE CLOSING. WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL, FOR YOUR CUSTOM AND SUPPORT WHILST WE HAVE BEEN AT THE DENMARK ARMS PUB. OUR LAST DAY OF TRADING WILL BE MONDAY THE 30th OF JULY 2018. THIS WILL BE OUR LAST WEEKEND OF MUSIC SO PLEASE FEEL FREE TO JOIN US THIS SATURDAY AND LETS HAVE A GOOD TIME. MUSIC STARTS AT 8.30 TILL LATE. ONCE AGAIN THANK-YOU THE DENMARK ARMS.”
Recent data shows that 25% of London’s boozers have closed since 2001.
That number is even worse in Newham, according to data from the Inter-Departmental Business Register, between 2001 and 2017 over 50% of the boroughs pubs have closed down.
There are now just over 3,500 operating across the capital.
