Four jailed after car driven at boy

Four men have been jailed after a 16-year-old boy suffered life-changing injuries when a car was driven at him in Newham.

Police were called to a fight in Plashet Road, East Ham in December 2015.

They found the teenager unconscious in a nearby road suffering from severe head and leg injuries.

It was established that an Audi A1 had been driven at him as he was riding a bike.

The 16-year-old was taken to hospital where he remained for two weeks before being discharged.

Mohammed Choudhary then contacted police claiming that his Audi A1 has been stolen.

Enquiries found that to be false and the 28-year-old, of Plashet Grove, East Ham, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

During interview, Choudhary claimed he had given his car to Haroon Ahmed, 23, of Barking Road, Plaistow.

Ahmed passed it on to Subhan Sajjad who, along with Imran Habib, used it to injure the teenage victim.

Sajjad, 23, of Bradleigh Avenue, Grays, instructed Choudhary to report the car as stolen to avoid it being linked to the attack.

Choudhary was then charged with perverting the course of justice for providing a false report to police regarding the vehicle.

Sajjad was arrested for an unrelated matter in February 2016.

He was further arrested and later charged with attempted murder after CCTV evidence linked him to the incident.

Ahmed was arrested by officers in May 2016 after he was seen by officers driving a blue Maserati in Newham.

He tried to drive off but crashed his vehicle and attempted to run away.

The officers caught Ahmed and he admitted to knowing that he was wanted.

He was charged with perverting the cause of justice for helping Sajjad flee the scene of the attack.

Habib, 20, of Wyatt Road in Forest Gate, handed himself in to police in December 2016 and he was arrested on suspicion of murder.

CCTV evidence linked him to the scene and he was charged with attempted murder.

All four were sentenced on Thursday, 15 March at Blackfriars Crown Court.

Habib and Sajjad were both sentenced to 14-years imprisonment for causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Choudhary and Ahmed were jailed for 14 and 16 months respectively for perverting the course of justice.

Both have also been banned from driving for 30 months.

DI Robert Allen, from the Met’s Trident and Area Crime Command said: “This was a tenacious and painstaking investigation which has seen four dangerous offenders brought to justice.

“The young victim suffered life-changing injuries and I hope this sentence brings him some measure of comfort and closure to the family.”
