Harlow man guilty of attempted rape

A man from Harlow has been convicted for the attempted rape of a vulnerable woman.

25-year-old Ebbs Artez tried to rape the victim in a car park in the early hours of 19 May this year after seeing her alone in Post Office Walk.

A security guard intervened and Artez claimed they knew each before the woman was helped into a taxi and Police were contacted.

Artez denied the charge of attempted rape when he stood trial at Chelmsford Crown Court on 12 November but was found guilty by jury on 22 November.

Investigating officer, DC Lisa Stevenson, said: “Artez targeted a vulnerable woman and subjected her to a terrifying attack.”

“He then denied doing anything wrong and put her through the ordeal of giving evidence.”

“Thankfully the jury have seen through his lies and I hope the verdict will give the victim some comfort.”

Artez will remain in custody until sentencing on 11 January next year.
