Kian Crowley, who studies Performing and Production Arts at New City College, was one of just 21 dancers out of over 200 candidates to be offered this opportunity.
Kian is due to take part in a residency training session in April and complete a UK tour over the summer.
He said, “I love performing for audiences as well as teaching dance, so to get this opportunity was amazing.
“It is a passion of mine and I hope in the future to become a dance teacher and share my love for dance.”
Kian started dancing at the age of 8 and has won gold and silver medals in the London Youth Games and the Havering Games.
He has also won an award for his work helping at a dance club for young children and running dance workshops in local primary schools.
As part of the NYDC, Kian will work towards achieving a Gold Arts Award – a qualification accredited by Trinity College.
Kian’s Dance Lecturer Jo Leahy said, arts “We’re extremely proud of Kian getting a place in the National Youth Dance Company.
“It’s a massive achievement as competition is really tough and he is one of only eight boys selected nationally.”
