Officers from the Havering Park and Pettit’s Neighbourhood Policing Teams stopped a car on Chase Cross Road on Wednesday, 7 April as part of an intelligence-led proactive stop.
A plastic box containing small bags of herbal cannabis was found hidden within a specially designed compartment in the car, after officers searched the vehicle and the people in it.
One man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and was taken to an east London police station for further investigation.
Officers found 82 more bags of herbal cannabis and other equipment following a further search of the man’s home address.
Inspector Rob McElroy, Lead for Havering Neighbourhood Teams, said: “This stop is an good example of great team work and intelligence-led, Neighbourhood Policing. The stop led to my officers taking a quantity of Class B drugs off the streets of London.
“Drugs blight communities, are the drivers for violent crime, and lead to the exploitation of vulnerable people within our communities. Drugs ruin lives and my officers will continue to robustly target those responsible for bringing them into Havering.
“I would urge anyone in the community who is aware of anyone committing such offences to please contact police calling 101, or you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 anonymously. I would like to thank our communities for their continued support.”
