Man pleads guilty to violent robberies and burglary in Havering and Ilford

A man is due in court after pleading guilty to a number of violent robberies in Havering.

32-year-old Ross Dawson, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery and one of aggravated burglary.

He would use a knife to threaten people including an 84-year-old woman, taking money and cars.

The first offence happened in July 2017 where Dawson booked a cab from Crow Lane and get into the vehicle with a woman he claimed to be his pregnant wife.

He got the driver to stop in St Mary’s Lane in Upminster and threatened the driver with a knife before punching him in the face.

Dawson demanded the car key, but it broke during the struggle so he ran off.

Dawson threatened another cab driver with a knife later that month demanding money, the victim handed over his wallet but the ordeal was rcorded on the driver’s dash-cam.

The crimes continued when an 84 year-old woman was in her car outside her address in Romford, when she was approached by Dawson, who had a girl with him. He said it was his pregnant wife who was not feeling well, asking for a lift to the hospital.

On route Dawson made the elderly victim stop on a secluded road and pushed her out of the car and sped off from the scene.

The incident was recorded on the dash-cam of another driver.

The last incident happened in August 2017 in Ilford.

A 30-year-old female, told police she had been held at knife point after answering the door.

She was confronted by two men, one of whom was Dawson and another white man who was referred to as John.

The man being called John put a knife to her throat and demanded she tell them where the valuables were.

Dawson then went behind the victim and put his right arm over her right shoulder and put her in a headlock, she lost consciousness, blacked out and fell to the floor.

Dawson was arrested in August 2017 and subsequently charged.

A teenage girl pleaded guilty at juvenile court in October 2017, to possession of a pointed and bladed article.
