Man from Beckton jailed after Newham drug raids

A man from Beckton has been jailed for two years and eight months for four counts of supplying and possession of Class A drugs.

49-year-old Clive Thompson (right) pleaded guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, 1 November.

He was arrested along with 20-year-old Jordan Catchpole from North Woolwich on 24 October following a series of early morning raids in Newham.

The raids were part of a five-month operation by Police targeting those suspected of being involved in drugs and violence across Custom House and Beckton.

Detective Superintendent Zena Marshall, from the North East Area Borough Command Unit says it shows they are doing everything in their power to stop this happening.

“We have seen an intolerable amount of violence in parts of Newham in recent months. The results from this operation, and these subsequent sentences, should reassure our communities that we are doing the utmost to bring offenders who are committing these acts of violence to justice. It should also send a clear message to those intent on blighting our streets with drugs that we will do everything in our power to identify you and apprehend you.

“We will continue to work closely with colleagues across the Met to tackle the supply of drugs and the associated criminality we have experienced recently.”

The operation was a collaboration between the Met’s Trident and Area Crime Command, Violent Crime Taskforce, and borough officers from the North East Borough Command Unit.
