George Stoiean, 27, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday, 19 May. He had pleaded guilty to rape at the same court on Thursday, 18 March.
Police were called on the morning of Wednesday, 25 November 2020 after a woman in her 20s reported being bundled into a car by two men on Ilford High Road. She was driven a short distance away, where she was raped inside the car.
The woman was walking along Ilford High Road at approximately 3.30am when the car pulled up beside her. The passenger got out of the car and followed her along the road. She was then forced into the vehicle where she was attacked by Stoiean, who was also driving the car.
The woman suffered injuries to her body and face after being held down and repeatedly punched. She was dropped off a few streets away, where she made her way to a friend’s house to raise the alarm by calling the police. Specially trained officers then also provided support to the woman.
Detectives launched an investigation to track down the men responsible. They used CCTV, phone data, and witness accounts to locate Stoiean, who was arrested in Lincolnshire on Friday, 27 November 2020. He was taken into custody and charged with rape. Enquiries to locate the passenger of the vehicle are ongoing.
Detective Constable Claire Smith, of the Metropolitan Police’s East Area Public Protection Unit, said: “Stoiean has not shown any remorse for his actions and repeatedly lied to police about his involvement in the attack.
“The victim has shown incredible courage after suffering such a terrible ordeal and I hope this sentence brings her some comfort that Stoiean will serve a length custodial sentence before being released.”
