Man seriously injured in East Ham acid attack

A man has been left with life-changing injuries after an acid attack in East Ham.

Newham Police are appealing for witnesses after a corrosive substance was thrown at the 24-year-old man in Burges Road last month.

The victim was approached by four men, believed to be aged in their late teens or 20s in a silver Lexus.

They stopped the car and asked the victim where he was from before getting out of the vehicle and assaulting him with a brick.

They then threw the corrosive substance in his face and made off towards High Street North.

The victim suffered injuries to his face, arms and torso and was taken to hospital, where he remains with life-changing injuries.

Two men, aged 27 and 23, were arrested and have since been charged.

DS John Macleod of Newham CID, said: “This young man has been through a traumatic experience, one which will leave him with permanent reminders of the distress inflicted upon him.

“We’re keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the surrounding area at the time of the attack, or may have seen a silver Lexus heading in the direction of High Street North. Although two men have now been charged, we’re still keen to hear from any witnesses and anyone who may have heard anything, since.

“We are also continuing our search for the silver Lexus that was used by the suspects.”

Anyone with information can contact Newham CID on 101 quoting CAD 5017/12FEB18. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
