People in Barking and Dagenham will be able to recycle more items from home.

Previously, residents could only recycle paper, card, plastic bottles and tins in their brown bins.

The extended recycling scheme means resident will now also be able to recycle the following items:

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Paperback books
  • Hardback books
  • Mixed plastics such as yogurt pots and margarine tubs
  • Empty aerosol cans and clean aluminium foil

Residents who live in flats with blue Eurobins can now put these additional items into their blue Eurobins.

Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Public Realm, said, “Following a successful pilot last year, I’m delighted to have rolled out an extended recycling scheme for all Barking and Dagenham households.

“We have always been committed to recycling as much as we can, and our extended recycling offer now makes it easier for all residents to recycle more at home.

“I know lots of residents wanted to be able to recycle bottles, books and more plastic items and now they can do so in their brown bins, freeing up more space in their grey bins for general waste items.”

Residents can find more information on what they can recycle here.
