The Stop Smoking Service is open to anyone who studies, lives, works or is registered to a GP in the borough.
Those on the programme will have a dedicated practitioner who will provide them with a tailored plan for quitting. It will include tips on how to quit as well as advise about the best nicotine replacement therapy products, such as chewing gum, nasal sprays, and patches to help manage cravings and withdrawal symptoms.
The service is also offering two Stoptober pop-up shops in support of the national month-long campaign to encourage people to stop smoking.
These will offer advice and information about quitting and will take place at the Ilford Exchange Mall, between 10am-5pm, on Saturday, 2 October and Monday, 4 October.
Redbridge Council cabinet member for adult social care and health, Cllr Mark Santos, said: “Giving up smoking brings big benefits to your health, some of which you can see almost immediately. Your ability to taste and smell will improve in a matter of days, and as your lungs clear, you’ll find you won’t get out of breath so quickly.
“The latest evidence also shows smokers are significantly more likely to be admitted to hospital with COVID.
“We know it’s not easy to give up, which is why our Stop Smoking Service is here to support you. With the national Stoptober campaign kicking off, there has never been a better time to get in touch with our stop smoking service because you don’t have to do it alone.”
