Romford Business Improvement District joins forces with First Mile

The BID has teamed up with recycling company, First Mile

Romford Business Improvement District (BID) has joined forces with award-winning waste and recycling company, First Mile, in an effort to support its members.

The partnership aims to bring an efficient service to Romford BID members that will benefit them both economically and environmentally.

The BID will offer an initial subsidy to every member when they sign up for the scheme and discounts will be applied to a range of First Mile services.

First Mile was established in 2004 and since then they have been on a mission to make it easier for UK businesses to recycle and improve their sustainability.

They currently serve over 27,000 customers and collect 65,000 tonnes of recycling every year.

The company can recycle over 20 different types of materials, from the usual suspects of paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, and food, to the more obscure such as coffee pods, textiles, light bulbs, and cooking oil.

They have a no landfill policy which means anything that can’t be recycled is turned into green energy.

Julie Frost, Romford BID director, said she is excited about the coalition: “The partnership with First Mile of new recycling service is an important step in supporting our businesses in reducing their annual costs, delivering an efficient service and above all, supporting the environment in which we live and work in.

“Romford BID members will instantly save money through not just the agreed subsidy arrangement but attractive discounts.”

Bruce Batley, CEO of First Mile, said: “Our new partnership with Romford BID is designed to reduce business recycling costs and improve the local environment in the Romford town centre. We look forward to delivering savings to Romford BID business together.”

The new Romford BID recycling scheme will launch on Tuesday, 1 September 2021.
