Police were called to The Broadway at 3:40pm on 22 November where they found a boy with a serious knife wound to his hand.
He was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment.
Detective Sergeant Nick Rawlins said, “We believe this to be a targeted attack and officers from Loughton police station quickly made an arrest in connection with the incident.”
“The assault took place on a busy High Street, where it is believed there would have been a number of witnesses, and the incident may have been filmed.”
“Please get in touch with us, or Crimestoppers anonymously if you have information or footage but do not feel comfortable talking to police directly.”
A 16-year-old boy from Buckhurst Hill arrested on suspicion of assault remains in police custody pending ongoing enquiries.
