Tower Hamlets Council’s vaccine bus is on its way to help everyone in the community get their COVID-19 jab.

The council have said that they are aiming to get key communities vaccinated and have drawn up a timetable for where the bus will go.

It has been drawn up to help reach seemingly hard to reach communities and groups.

The bus, which will be able to vaccinate on the spot, and will be offering first, second and booster jabs.

Staff on the bus will also be able to engage with members of the community and help to educate and reassure about the protection that the injections offer against COVID-19.

The new locations will help reach communities including black Caribbean residents, the Somali community, students and young people and particularly vulnerable groups such as the homeless.

These locations have been chosen for their ability to reach specific communities, however the vaccine bus is still open to anyone and has been vaccinating many members of the public in recent weeks.

So far in the borough, over 200,000 residents have received both doses of the vaccine and over 100,000 have had their third booster dose.

The council are keen to get as many vulnerable people jabbed due to the high rates of the infection within the borough and the country.

John Biggs, Mayor of Tower Hamlets, said, “We’re continuing to work hard with health partners to make getting jabbed as easy as possible, and educate all residents on the importance of protecting themselves and others through vaccination.

“We know there is still more work to be done locally to improve vaccine rates and our vaccine bus is just one example of how we are taking the vaccine gap in hard to reach groups seriously.”

Lead Member for Adults, Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Rachel Blake added, “Alongside our bus we have more clinics than ever across Tower Hamlets offering vaccination.

“Please come forward and take up the offer of vaccination, whether your first, second or booster. We all must continue to play our part in protecting each other and keeping Tower Hamlets safe, you can also join up to become a COVID Champion to support the community to stay safe.”
