A woman has been taken to hospital following a house fire in Forest Gate yesterday.

Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters attended the incident on Marlborough Road at just after 11:00.

The ground floor of a mid-terraced house was destroyed by the flames.

A woman was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service after she was able to escape the property before fire crews arrived.

Station Commander Matt Brown, who was at the scene, said: “Firefighters worked quickly to bring the fire under control.

“A woman was out of the building before firefighters arrived and was treated on scene before being taken to hospital.

“Marlborough Road was closed and crews remained on scene throughout the afternoon.”

The Brigade was called at 1111 and had the fire under control before midday.

Fire crews from Stratford, Plaistow, Leyton, Barking and Bethnal Green fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
