40-year-old Shadika Mohsin Patel passed away in hospital after the attack in Barking Road.
It happened at around 12.40am, near to the junction with Altmore Avenue.
A post-mortem revealed Shadika’s cause of death to be blood loss following multiple stab wounds.
This morning, police arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
Detectives investigating the murder of a woman in Newham have made an arrest.
He remains in custody at a central London police station.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: “We retain an open mind concerning motive at this time.
“Detectives from Specialist Crime North are investigating and would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist to call police on 101 quoting CAD 213/19Mar.
“Information can also be reported 100% anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.”
