Essex Police are urging residents not to travel (credit: Essex Police)
Warnings are in place until around lunchtime today, with widespread travel disruption possible.
Essex Police said via Twitter: “We’re working with partners to grit & clear roads but we’re urging you not to travel unless it’s essential.”
UK areas under the weather warning are the outskirts of south-east London, plus Essex, Kent, Suffolk and Norfolk, Nottinghamshire and north to Sheffield and east into Lincolnshire.
The Met Office says it’s been “bitterly cold” due to strong winds from Ukraine and the Black Sea.
We’re working with partners to grit & clear roads but we’re urging you not to travel unless it’s essential.
If you have an essential journey to make, please remember:
• Adjust your driving to the conditions
• Reduce speed
• Increase distance to other vehicles#StaySafeEssex https://t.co/yCj3hD4Vgt— Essex Police (@EssexPoliceUK) February 7, 2021
Power cuts are also thought to be possible.
Residents are being urged to check on vulnerable or older neighbours and relatives, especially those living alone.
