Aldi donate pancake making kits to community group in Hornchurch

The donations have been made ahead of Pancake Day 

Aldi has donated a selection of pancake making kits to a community group in Hornchurch.

The donation to Icanyoucantoo, in Glebe Way, is part of the supermarket’s partnership with community giving platform “Neighbourly,” which sees Aldi donate surplus food from stores to help support local communities.

All pancake making kits will provide families with all the ingredients they need for Pancake Day tomorrow.

Set up in 2016, Icanyoucantoo coaches youngsters from non-privileged communities.

The group focus on providing young people with regular mentoring sessions and practical skills classes for further education and work.

Nilesh B. Dosa from icanyoucantoo said: “Many of the families we work with live in low-income households, so do not often get to have a treat.

“Sharing these pancake kits with our young people will be amazing. Things like this can really make a big difference.”

Managing Director of Corporate Responsibility at Aldi UK, Mary Dunn said: “We hope our pancake kits help spread a bit of joy to families, providing them with the ingredients to cook up some tasty creations in the kitchen.”

From Neighbourly, Steve Butterworth added: “We believe every child should get to enjoy the fun and deliciousness of Pancake Day, no matter what their situation.

“Aldi’s additional donations will go a long way to putting a smile on children’s faces this Pancake Day.”

Aldi’s partnership with Neighbourly donates 650,000 meals a month to charities throughout the UK.

Donations to support children and families are increased during school holidays as part of the supermarket’s Community Cupboard programme.
