Members of the public found the injured victim, aged in his 30s, in Feenan Highway around 9.45pm on Sunday, 2 January.
The man was taken to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition.
A 19 year-old man from Tilbury was arrested yesterday (Monday, 3 January) on suspicion of attempted murder.
Police are appealing for anyone with information on the incident to come forward.
Detective Inspector Julie Gowen, who’s leading the investigation, said: “We are working to establish the circumstances which led up to the victim becoming injured.
“Officers worked quickly, making an arrest and I do not believe the incident poses a threat to the wider public.
“We believe the victim was attacked in the area of Feenan Highway and need anyone in the area with CCTV, doorbell cameras, or dash cam to check their cameras. In particular between the times of 6pm and 10pm.
““If you saw or heard anything or have any information, I need you to get in contact.”
