Woman dies in car crash following police chase on A13 in Dagenham

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct 

A woman has died after the car she was a passenger in collided another vehicle that was being chased by police in Dagenham this morning.

Essex Police officers requested that a car stop on the A13 near Rainham at around 2.30am. It refused and they began pursuing the vehicle.

During the chase the car collided with another vehicle in Dagenham.

“Despite the best efforts of officers and medics at the scene, a female passenger in the second vehicle has now died,” said Chief Superintendent Stuart Hooper.

“We are currently working with our colleagues in the Metropolitan Police Service who, at this stage, are leading the response to the incident.

“As is appropriate, we have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct which has declared an independent investigation.”

The A13 is currently closed between Ripple Road and the Lodge Avenue flyover.
