Almost 90pc of children offered first choice of primary school in Havering

Thousands of children found out which place they’d been offered yesterday (credit: Havering Council)

Nearly 89% of children in Havering have been offered their first choice of primary school.

Yesterday (Monday, 17 April) was National Offer Day where thousands of local families found out which infant or primary school place they’d been offered this September.

Havering’s average was just slightly higher than the London average by 0.3%.

More than 96% have been offered places at one of their top three preferred schools.

Across London the demand for primary school places has dropped, which may be attributed to various factors such as a decreasing birth rate, families moving due to changes in their circumstances and working patterns and families leaving London during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Councillor Oscar Ford, said:
“Havering has once again performed superbly in allocating places to children starting school this September.

“With all our schools now rated “good” or better, pupils and parents will be pleased that their children will be receiving a top quality education.

“My thanks go out to the School Admissions Team and everyone who has worked so hard over the past few months to provide support to parents in achieving their preferred school.”
