London Fire Brigade was called shortly after 6.35am this morning to reports of a blaze in St Mary’s Lane.
Most of the roof, half of the first floor and part of the ground floor of a detached house were alight.
Around 60 Firefighters and eight fire engines from Hornchurch, Dagenham, Romford, Barking and surrounding fire stations attended to the fire.
London Ambulance Service also attended to the incident.
An LAS spokesperson said: “We were called at 6.46am this morning to reports of a fire in St Mary’s Lane, Upminster.
“We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and our hazardous area response teams.
“Sadly, a person died at the scene.”
The fire was under control by 8.12am.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
