A blaze broke out at a mid-terraced house in Eric Road shortly before 11am.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man from the first floor.
He was treated at the scene and taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service, where he later died.
Crews brought the blaze under control by around 12.15pm. Part of the first floor of the building was damaged by the fire.
The Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade are investigating the cause of the fire.
