The programme is being ran on behalf of the council by Everyone Active (Pic-Havering Council)
Live Healthier Havering is a 12-week programme being run on behalf of the council by Everyone Active.
It is designed to help local residents lose weight, increase energy levels and also to reduce their risk of diseases such as coronary heart disease, diabetes and strokes.
Those who are classed as overweight by the NHS’s definition can join the programme by speaking to their GP or practice nurse.
The NHS describe people with a BMI rating of over 25 as overweight.
Councillor Jason Frost, Cabinet Member for Public Health, said: “With the new year approaching, some people will be thinking about what changes they can make so they can have a healthier lifestyle.
“The sessions are free and will help residents wishing to lose weight and improve their lifestyle. It will help them to become focused, while getting support in a fun and friendly environment.
“By making small changes to their diet and daily activities they should see a big improvement to their wellbeing in a short space of time.”
There will also be support available after the programmes has finished for those that would like it.
