Politicians including Nick Clegg have descended on Rainham to call on the Government to avoid a so-called ‘hard Brexit’.
Former Labour foreign secretary David Miliband was also there as he launched his political comeback, having stepped down as an MP in 2010.
Speaking at the Tilda rice mill, in Coldharbour Lane, Miliband said: “Frankly I am alarmed at the state of the negotiations.
“There is confusion, contradiction and division when there needs to be cool logic.
“A commitment to the hardest of hard brexits is, in my view, holding the negotiations and the negotiators to ransom.”
Nick Clegg claimed it would leave the UK poorer, adding: “It doesn’t matter what model the Government chooses, it makes no difference.
“Every single one of those alternatives is a huge reduction in trade compared to the seamless, open, limitless trade we now have.”
Current Conservative MP for Loughborough Nicky Morgan was also there.
