Four men wearing balaclavas forced their way into a property in Hycliffe Gardens at around 8.30pm yesterday evening.
An occupant in the property challenged the intruders and was then assaulted.
The suspects did not manager to taken anything, and fled in a grey saloon car which was driven by a fifth person.
Police have described the victim’s injuries as “potentially serious but non-life changing.”
“We would like to speak to anyone who lives or was driving in the area and has a doorbell camera or dash cam footage” said Detective Sergeant Neale Parker from Loughton CID.
“We are also keen to speak to those who were in the area around the time and witnessed any suspicious behaviour.
“Anyone with information are asked to contact Loughton CID on 101, quoting crime reference 42/23441/20”.
