Third arrest after child shot during suspected aggravated burglary in Cranham

Police arrested a third male yesterday evening.

Police have made a further arrest, after an 11-year-old boy was shot during a suspected aggravated burglary in Cranham.

The 26-year-old was arrested yesterday evening and remains in custody at an east London police station.

Detectives have established the owner of a house in Kerry Drive opened the door to a man pretending to be a delivery driver at around 9.30pm on Friday, 1 May.

The suspect and a number of other people forced their way inside the property.

During the ensuing incident, a child was shot and a man suffered cuts to his head although it is unclear if the lacerations were caused by a knife or gun shot.

Both victims were taken to hospital and are not in a life-threatening condition. However, the boy’s injuries may be life-changing.

A number of suspects fled the scene before officers arrived. Two firearms were found inside the address and police believe the suspects were also armed with a knife.

Detectives had previously arrested two males, aged 16 and 18.

The 16-year-old was bailed to return on a date in late May, pending further enquiries.

The 18-year-old was released yesterday afternoon with no further action.

They are still working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and a dedicated Specialist Crime Command unit is carrying out various enquiries.

Detective Inspector Matt Webb, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “This nightmarish attack on the victims’ own doorstep has, understandably, shaken the family and the local community.

“I want to reassure them that we are pursuing this case and trawling through potential leads and evidence. I am asking the public to help us track down those who committed this crime. If you have any information, no matter how small or insignificant you think it might be, please get in touch.

“We will work tirelessly to identify and pursue offenders, help bring perpetrators to justice, take weapons off the street, support victims, engage and reassure the public, and keep our communities safe.”

Anyone with information are asked to call police on 101 quoting reference 7285/01May. To remain anonymous, please contact the independent charity Crimestoppers.

Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as part of reassurance patrols over the weekend and are encouraged to approach officers to speak about any concerns.
