Woman dies in maisonette fire in Plaistow

A woman has died following a fire at a maisonette in Plaistow.

The blaze broke out in the property in Gillman Drive just before 5pm yesterday evening.

Around 25 firefighters from Stratford, Poplar and East Ham fire stations attended to the fire.

One woman was rescued by firefighters from the third floor and taken to hospital.

Another woman sadly died at the scene.

The fire was under control by 6.19pm although the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Part of the ground floor of the building was damaged.
