Dagenham man completes Great North Run in support of Brain Tumour Charity

John took part in the Great North Run on Sunday

A man from Dagenham took part in the Great North Run to raise money for a Brain Tumour Charity after a family member was diagnosed with one at a young age.

John Wood travelled nearly 300 miles North to participate in the 13.1 mile route on Sunday, 10 September which started in Newcastle and finished in South Shields.

It was the 42nd year of the large scale event with around 60,000 runners believed to have taken part.

John completed the route in 3 hours 54 minutes.

He said: “Had a great time – I was running for the brain tumour trust and also for my relative.

“I finished my first great north run in 3.54 mins. I could have finished bit earlier, due to the weather it slowed me down a bit.

“It was a great experience.”

Ahead of the event, John set up a fundraising page which has so far raised more than £700 of a £1000 target.

All money raised will go to The Brain Tumour Charity, the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally.

The charity is close to the family after a loved one was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

John said “With a little help from my family and friends & a target of £1000 I too hope to help this amazing charity keep doing what they do best.”

Donations can still be made via the Just Giving page.
