The free event’s taking place on Saturday, 21 October from 11am-2pm and has been organised by the Hindu Cultural Society of Havering and 92 FM Nusound Radio.
It will start at 11am with the lighting of the lamp by Mayor Stephanie Nunn, followed by prayers from Avanti school children, followed by various dance performances.
Navratri is one of the most celebrated and revered Hindu festivals and observed for nine days to worship nine different forms of Goddess Durga.
Each day is associated with an incarnation of the Goddess Durga, who represents strength, power, wealth, passion, material well-being, knowledge, and dissolution. On the 10th day victory of good over evil is celebrated.
Romford BID Director, Julie Frost said, “We are delighted to support Navrati, the Hindu Cultural Society of Havering and 92 FM Nusound Radio by providing them with gazebos for the event and paying for their market pitch fees.
“Romford BID is proud to support different cultures within Havering and promote their celebrations, and hope to see lots of people from all walks of life attend and enjoy this special event.”
