The fire broke out at the disused Ship and Anchor pub in Dagenham last night (credit: LFB)
London Fire Brigade were called to the Ship and Anchor pub in Wood Lane which was reported to be alight shortly before 1am this morning (Wednesday, 20 March).
In total, 40 firefighters and six fire engines from across Dagenham, Romford, Hornchurch, Ilford and Greenwich fire stations attended the scene.
The whole roof of the historic disused pub was completely destroyed by the blaze.
No one was at the premises at the time and no injuries have been reported.
The fire was under control by around 3.15am, however firefighters carried out a search of the property and remained on scene throughout the night damping down remaining hot spots.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Wood Lane and surrounding roads have been affected by both full and partial closures throughout this morning.
Bus routes 5, 128, 173 and 175 are among those on diversion.
