22-year-old in custody after man dies on M11

An investigation has begun after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and died on the M11 last night, Friday, March 2.

Police were called at 8.15pm with reports of a grey BMW hitting the central barrier of the motorway southbound at junction seven.

This was then updated that someone was believed to have been hit by a vehicle, a black Ford Mondeo, and was in a critical condition.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, including doctors from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, a man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene just before 9.15pm.

The road was closed until around 3am with traffic being diverted.

A 22-year-old man from Bexleyheath has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He remains in custody this morning.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 or email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk
