Upney man jailed for child sex offences

A paedophile from Upney has been jailed for sexually abusing three teenage girls.

Rupert Deeble, 51, of Margaret Bondfield Avenue, was found guilty of two counts of raping a child under the age of 13, three counts of assault by penetration, four counts of sexual activity with a child and of causing a child to watch a sexual act.

He was sentenced yesterday at Snaresbrook Crown Court to 23 years in jail, and will have to serve at least two thirds of that after the judge branded him “a dangerous offender.”

The crimes were committed against three girls, who were aged between 12 and 15 years, and took place between 2008 and 2017 but police are worried that there are more victims who are yet to come forward.

Detective Constable Nancy Smith said: “We strongly believe that there are other victims that have not yet been able to come forward and we urge anyone who has been a victim or knows anything about any other crimes that Deeble may have committed to contact police.

All three girls knew Deeble before he started abusing them.

Detective Constable Jasmine Abbey, from the Met’s East Area Borough Command Safeguarding Unit, added: “I would like to thank the victims and their families for their strength and courage in speaking to police and the court about these horrendous crimes committed by Deeble.

“Deeble has completely shattered the lives of these young people and their families and I hope that with this verdict and sentence they now finally feel some sort of closure and are able to start trying to rebuild their lives.”
