Jimmy shaved his head to raise money for the NHS
Jimmy, from Stappleford Abbotts, went live on Instagram, at 3pm on Sunday to take part in the fundraiser.
The fundraising page was initially set up with a £250 target but this was surpassed within an hour.
Donations came from a mixture of friends, family and individuals on social media.
Bower Park Academy, in Havering Road, Chase Cross, also offered its support to the pupil.
Every penny of the money raised will be going directly to the NHS.
Jimmy told Time 107.5: “The day before, when I was about to go to bed, I got quite scared because I was thinking what if it doesn’t grow back but then I thought that it’s for a good cause, so I did it.”
“I’d like the money to be spent on buying more equipment, helping people and just hope that they can continue day by day helping more people.”
Jimmy’s mum, Rebecca Bixby said: “I’m unbelievably proud of him. We just can’t believe it, at this time a lot of people are out of work but the amount of donations that have come through, is just so important.
“Thank you to everyone single person who has donated. Stay home, stay safe and let’s protect the NHS.”
