Man jailed and will be deported after sexual assault on Dagenham bus

A Romanian man has been jailed after he sexually assaulted a teenager girl on a bus in Dagenham.

Samuel Stoica will be deported after serving his sentence following the attack in May 2019.

The 23-year-old, who lives in Ripple Road, Barking, boarded a 173 bus and went to the upper deck.

He began talking to a 17-year-old girl and then kissed her, grabbed her round the throat, forced his hand onto her body and exposed his penis.

Stoica was identified from CCTV footage on the bus and swiftly arrested.

He pleaded guilty today at Snaresbrook Crown Court and was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment.

After completing his sentence, he will be sent back to Romania.

DC Teresa Moore from the Roads and Transport Policing Command said: “This was a particularly nasty assault on a young woman, who was going about her business on the bus network. The suspect used force against a teenager alone on a bus.

“The sentence sends out a clear message that such conduct will not be tolerated and will be dealt with robustly.

“We remain totally committed to keeping people safe on the transport network across London

“I would encourage anyone who is a victim of sexual assault to report the matter to police as soon as they can so we can catch the perpetrator(s) and put them where they belong – in jail.”

Stoica will also be made subject to a Sexual harm prevention order and will remain on the sex offence register for 10 years.
