Man knocks himself out trying to escape police in Rainham

Police have arrested a man in Rainham after he ran into a wall and knocked himself out while trying to escape from officers.

The bizarre incident happened after police attempted to stop a vehicle in Cowper Road at around 3pm today.

The suspect, a man in his 40s, decamped from the car and ran into the wall.

It transpired the man was already wanted by police.

He was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, driving without insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with a driving licence.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson added: “He was further arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill after being identified as wanted.

“He has been taken to hospital as a precaution prior to being taken into custody.”
