Dagenham students make visors for healthcare workers to use during pandemic

Four students made the visors for NHS and healthcare workers

Four students from Elutec Academy and Sixth Form have produced visors for healthcare workers to use during the coronavirus pandemic.

Samuel Humphries and Mantas Kalnietis in year 12, plus William Dow and Eniakin Rufai in year 11 used their skills to make the equipment.

Students made the visors in the workshop facilities, based in Dagenham, on Wednesday, 29 April and Thursday, 30 April.

The space is large enough that students were able to work safely and maintain social distancing at all times.

Visors were made in bright colours to lift the spirits of those working in the NHS and healthcare sectors.

The recipients of the visors are Whipps Cross Hospital in East London, Saint Francis Hospice in Havering-atte-Bower and Parkside Residential Care Home in Romford.

Director of Quality & Care at Saint Francis Hospice, Tes Smith said:”Thank you so much to everyone at Elutec School for thinking of the Hospice and taking the time and effort to make these visors, so our nurses and staff can stay safe while they care for people who are seriously ill.

“Your kindness and generosity means so much to us at this time.”

Business Services Manager at Parkside Residential Care Home, Gill Feinson said: “Thank you very much, we are amazed, they are very impressive.”
