Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a woman was raped in Dagenham.

The Metropolitan Police says the victim was subjected to a serious sexual assault in the area of Barnmead Road, in the early hours of Sunday, 4 October.

She is currently being supported by specially trained officers.

The male suspect has been described as white, of slim build, approximately 5ft 8 inches tall and aged in his mid-20s. He was wearing blue jeans, white trainers and a cream round necked jumper, and spoke with an English accent.

Police are conducting urgent enquiries to locate the rapist.

In a statement, the Met said: “If you saw a male of this description or remember any other suspicious activity in the local area at the time please contact police urgently on 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD863/4Oct.

“Alternatively, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

No arrests have been made so far.
