Police were called to the incident in Lakeside Shopping Centre yesterday.
Essex Police was called to the incident in the shopping centre, near Skechers, at around 5.30pm yesterday afternoon.
Henry Makina, of Bellflower Path, has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and possession of cannabis.
He has been released on bail to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 19 January 2021.
Essex Police had previously said two people were arrested. The force has now clarified that only one person was detained.
