Alex Burghart handed out certificates to several apprentices
Alex Burghart visited Falltricks Hairdressing Academy, in the Liberty Shopping Centre, yesterday morning to present trainees with certificates for completing their apprenticeships.
He said he could feel their “enthusiasm” and praised the academy for the “extraordinary expertise” it has built up over the years.

“One of the really fantastic things about apprenticeships is that you get to earn while you learn,” said Mr Burghart.
“It’s a wonderful combination of having training but also meeting and working alongside people who have been doing the job for a long time.”
The hairdressing traineeships are taught by Momentum Training and vary in length from six weeks to one year.

Marie Stefanovic teaches the apprentices all aspects of hairdressing from shampooing to colouring, cutting and restyling.
She explained they can be as young as 16 or adults who are looking for a career change and a fresh start.
“I love teaching them all,” she said. “When they do their first haircut that is always a big deal or even when they cut their finger for the first time because we all say ‘you’re not a hairdresser until you’ve cut yourself’.
“Everyone mucks in, everyone clears up at the end of the day, everyone lends each other their equipment so there’s a good atmosphere.”

The Brentwood MP was also given a “facial treatment at speed” during his visit.
He said it left him feeling “fresh” and “young” but admitted he was slightly nervous about seeing the photos.
The visit was part of National Apprenticeships Week which celebrates the benefits of the courses.
